How this screen works

Every trading day a handful of stocks capture the country's attention — a result, a raid, an order win, a crash. This screen measures that attention directly instead of guessing at it: it matches Google Trends search spikes to listed companies, counts each stock's business-news stories today, and folds in the live price move.

The ranking rewards breadth of attention: a stock that is simultaneously spiking on Google, all over the news and moving on heavy volume outranks a stock with any single signal. That cross-check is the difference between what India is genuinely talking about and what one outlet decided to cover.

Search interest comes from Google Trends' trending-searches feed for India, with each spiking term conservatively matched to a listed company by name (whole-phrase match against the NIFTY 500 and F&O universe — 'Tata Motors' matches, a lone 'Tata' does not).

News attention counts the day's classified catalyst stories per stock from NSE/BSE filings and business-press headlines. Market attention uses the live change % from the indicator universe; moves under ±2% don't score.

Each attention type contributes to the score, and stocks with two or three types at once receive a cross-signal bonus — attention that shows up in multiple places is the real thing. The list refreshes through the session and the day's final ranking is stored permanently.

Trending ≠ investable: attention often peaks exactly when a move is finishing. Treat this as the day's watchlist and conversation map, not a buy list.

FAQ

How do you know a stock is 'most searched'?
From Google Trends' public trending-searches feed for India: when a spiking search term matches a listed company's name, that stock gets search-attention credit proportional to the reported search volume. Google doesn't publish exact per-stock search counts, so the ranking combines the spike data with news and price attention rather than claiming precise search numbers.

How often does the list update?
Every few minutes through the trading session. The day's final ranking is snapshotted after the close and kept permanently, so trending streaks can be tracked over time.

Why is a stock trending but barely moving in price?
Attention leads or lags price all the time — results announced after hours, a brand in the news for non-financial reasons, or a move that already happened yesterday. That divergence is often the most useful information on the page.

Is a trending stock a buy signal?
No. Public attention frequently peaks at the end of a move, not the start. Use the list to know what the market is focused on, then check the stock's own page for the institutional flow and positioning picture.
